CSA pay tribute to Vernon Frans

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) has expressed sadness at the passing of former Eastern Province Cricket Association fast bowler, Vernon Frans, this morning at the age of 56.

Frans was one of a quartet of brothers who represented Eastern Province in the period before unity under the aegis of the South African Cricket Board. He represented Eastern Province from 1986 to 1991 and also gained provincial colours for baseball, football and junior hockey.

He is survived by his two sons and two daughters as well has his brothers, Jeff and Ashwell. His other brother, Edwin, pre-deceased him.

The funeral service will be held at St. Hugh’s Anglican Church on Saturday, December 17, at 10:00.

“I well remember playing alongside Vernon for Eastern Province,” commented CSA Chief Executive, Haroon Lorgat, “and he will be deeply missed. The Frans family were legends of the game in the Eastern Province during that period. On behalf of the CSA Family I extend our deepest condolences to his family, his friends and his cricketing colleagues.”
