Australia bat in opening day-night Test

Brisbane - Australia won the toss and chose to bat in the day-night first Test against Pakistan at the Gabba on Thursday.

Australia kept an unchanged side from last month's day-night third Test win over South Africa with spinner Nathan Lyon preferred to paceman Chadd Sayers.

Pakistan, looking to win their first series in Australia at the 12th attempt, made two changes to the side that lost to New Zealand in Hamilton last month with captain Misbah-Ul-Haq and leg-spinner Yasir Shah returning.

Teams:

Australia: David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith (captain), Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird.

Pakistan: Azhar Ali, Sami Aslam, Babar Azam, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq (captain), Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Amir, Rahat Ali.

Umpires: Ian Gould (ENG) and Richard Illingworth (ENG)

Third umpire: Sundaram Ravi (IND)

Match referee: Ranjan Madugalle (SRI)
