Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Wednesday announced the addition of Rusty Theron to the Proteas’ Standard Bank squad for the three-match MTN ODI series against Zimbabwe starting at the OUTsurance Oval, Bloemfontein, on Friday.
“With Dale Steyn and Jacques Kallis both out of the series and Morne Morkel still recovering from injury we thought it prudent to add an extra seamer to the squad,” commented CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson.
Theron played in the two Standard Bank International Pro20 matches against Zimbabwe but is uncapped in the ODI format.
Hudson also announced that Steyn and Kallis would be added to the Standard Bank Pro20 squad for the two matches against Pakistan at the start of the tour.
“We had originally decided to rest them from that section of the tour to the United Arab Emirates but we feel that they will benefit from the extra match time now that they have been ruled out of the Zimbabwe series,” explained Hudson.
