Waugh offered IPL role

United Arab Emirates - Former Australia captain Steve Waugh has been offered a key post with the new Indian Premier League franchise Kochi.

The National newspaper said on Thursday that Kochi's Dubai-based chairperson Harshad Mehta had approached Waugh to be adviser and technical assistant to the team.

Kochi and Pune will be the new franchises in the expanded 10-team IPL competition next year.

The entry of the new franchises led to the suspension of IPL commissioner Lalit Modi for alleged corruption in the bidding, television broadcast deals and other matters. Modi has denied any wrongdoing.
