Von Zeuner to chair CSA board

Cape Town - The Board of Directors of Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Sunday completed the selection process of the five Independent Directors to serve on the new board of CSA which will be constituted at the annual general meeting later this month.

The selection process followed an extensive two-month process carried out by the Independent Nominations Committee (INC), following their appointment at the Board meeting of August 11, 2012.

The Board received the report from the INC and debated it thoroughly as was their prerogative and settled on the following persons to form the independent component of the new Board, namely:

• Mr Louis von Zeuner, who will be chairperson of the Board
• Mrs Dawn Mokhobo
• Mr Vusi Pikoli
• Mr Mohamed Iqbal Khan
• Mr Geoff Whyte

Mr Von Zeuner is currently Deputy Group Chief Executive of Absa Group Ltd.

Mrs Mokhobo was named SA Businesswoman of the Year in 1993 and in 1996 chaired the UN Special Committee of Experts appointed to address the global issue of Women and Senior Economic Decision Making. She is chairperson of the Board of Wesizwe Platinum Pty Ltd and serves on the Boards of several other companies.

Mr Pikoli is a member of the EU Foundation for Human Rights and the Magistrate’s Commission and also serves as a Trustee of the Constitutional Court.

Mr Khan is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.  He is currently Chief Operating Officer for Old Mutual Investment Group South Africa.

He is a former player for SA Schools under both the South African Cricket Union and the South African Cricket Board and was a member of the Transvaal Cricket Board team in the Howa Bowl competition prior to unity.

Mr Whyte is a proven business leader with experience in the top echelons of leading global organizations including Unilever, Pepsico, Cadbury Schweppes and SAB-Miller.  In 2009 the Sunday Times named him their Marketing Person of the Year.

He has also been a judge of a number of South Africa’s major marketing and media awards and has extensive media experience both in South Africa and the UK.

“I must say I am delighted by the quality of the independent component of our new Board and I know they will work well with the cricket input from the Presidents who will provide the non-independent component of the Board and lead CSA into an exciting new era,” commented CSA Acting President Dr. Willie Basson.

The Independent Board members will be ratified by the Members’ Forum at the annual meeting on October 27 while the five non-independent members will be voted in at the same meeting.
