Vettori, Southee demolish Aus

Hamilton - New Zealand were 19/1 at stumps on the first day of the second and final Test against Australia at Seddon Park, Hamilton, on Saturday, after dismissing the visitors for 231.

Earlier, the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first.

New Zealand have made two changes in a bid to stave off a 2-0 defeat, bringing in Mathew Sinclair for Peter Ingram, and including a second spinner - Jeetan Patel - in the place of Daryl Tuffey.

Daniel Vettori will be playing in his 100th Test - at his home ground no less - becoming only the second Black Cap to do so after Stephen Fleming.

Australia's Shane Watson has recovered from his hip injury and Phil Hughes will - as was expected - sit this one out.

Teams:

New Zealand: TG McIntosh, BJ Watling, MS Sinclair, LRPL Taylor, MJ Guptill, DL Vettori (capt), BB McCullum (wk), JS Patel, TG Southee, BJ Arnel, CS Martin

Australia: SR Watson, SM Katich, RT Ponting (capt), MEK Hussey, MJ Clarke, MJ North, BJ Haddin (wk), MG Johnson, NM Hauritz, RJ Harris, DE Bollinger

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
