Warriors boosted by Vallie

Port Elizabeth - The Warriors have added experienced batsman Yaseen Vallie to their squad ahead of a make-or-break weekend of RAM SLAM T20 action.

Vallie has been signed from the Cobras on loan for the rest of the competition, and could make his debut for the Warriors in Friday’s clash with the Sunfoil Dolphins at St. George’s Park.

The Warriors have lost all three matches in the tournament thus far, and have only won one game in an increasingly difficult season.

Vallie has been unable to get a game at the Cobras in the RAM SLAM this term, but averages almost 25 with the bat in his 26 games in the format.

“He’ll bring some freshness and intensity, so hopefully he can spark off a few things for us,” coach, Piet Botha, said.

“We’re in a situation where we need to win six out of the seven remaining games but, if we can remain positive, then there’s no reason we can’t pull it off.”

Their opposition have had a mixed campaign, recording two bonus-point victories but losing their other two games.

“When we’ve been good, we’ve been very good, but I’d just like us to be a little bit more consistent,” coach, Lance Klusener, said.

“Our fielding could be better and is a work in progress, and our bowling has improved. We’re chasing the perfect game but we haven’t quite got there yet.”

Vallie is the only addition to the Warriors squad, while the Dolphins intend to retain a similar unit to the more balanced one that beat the Titans by 64 runs on Sunday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
