Titans cruise past Cobras

Benoni - Jacques Rudolph struck a 56-ball 49 to help the Titans defeat the Cape Cobras by six wickets in their Twenty20 clash at Willowmoore Park  on Thursday night.

In a low scoring match, the Titans were set a target of 117, which they reached with eight balls to spare to give them their second win in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge.

Going for a big hit to bring up his 50 and increase the run rate, Rudolph was bowled by former Pakistan international Azhar Mahmood.

It was left to Albie Morkel and David Wiese to score the winning runs, but they lost out on the extra bonus point failing to reach the target within 16 overs.

Beuran Hendricks took two wickets for 21 while Charl Langeveldt and Mahmood and took one apiece.

Earlier, Dane Vilas smashed 59 off 44, including six fours and two sixes, but it was not enough for the Cobras who were restricted to 116 for four.

Vilas shared a fourth-wicket stand of 35 with Mahmood (15) and an unbeaten fifth-wicket partnership of 36 with Qaasim Adams (15 not out).

Ethy Mbhalati bowled with pace and control in his first three overs, removing both openers and posted figures of 3-1-3-2 but captain Alfonso Thomas decided to keep his last over in the bag.

Despite being whacked for 12 runs in that last over, Mbhalati returned figures of two for 15 while Albie Morkel took two for 14.
