Knights crush Warriors

Johannesburg - The Knights have picked up the first victory of the RAM SLAM T20 season with a crushing 74-run win over the Warriors at the Wanderers on Sunday.

Chasing 206 to win, the Warriors lost wickets right from the start of their innings eventually falling to 131 all out.

Dillon du Preez spearheaded the Knights bowling attack, picking up 4/25 in his four overs.

Jon-Jon Smuts (4) and Colin Ingram (3) were both out as the Warriors stuttered to nine for two in just the second over of their reply.

Even a brisk innings of 51 from 38 balls by overseas-based Craig Kieswetter could not help the Warriors avoid a heavy defeat.

Batting first, the Knights amassed the highest total at the ground in the T20 competition with 205 for five in their 20 overs.

A scintillating unbroken sixth wicket partnership of 67 from just 21 balls between Diego Rosier and Obus Pienaar helped the Bloemfontein side recover from 138 for five after 16.4 overs to move beyond the 200 mark by the end of their innings.

Rosier made 55 from 27 balls which included six fours and two maximums.

At the other end, Pienaar raced to 35 from 10 balls with three fours and three sixes.

Earlier, the Knights reached 86 for two at the halfway stage, after an opening stand of 78 for the first wicket between Rudi Second (32) and Gerhardt Abrahams (48).

Later, the Titans would play the Cobras before the final game of the day between the Lions and the Dolphins.
