Kallis to play T20 final

Cape Town - The Cape Cobras have had a massive boost to their hopes of winning the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge final on Sunday: one of Newlands’ favourite sons in Jacques Kallis will play in it.

The legendary all-rounder, now retired from the Test arena, revealed through Twitter on Monday (@jacqueskallis75) that he would boost the home team’s ranks against either of the Dolphins or Titans, who play a semi-final on Wednesday to determine who progresses to play the round-robin log-toppers.

Kallis said: “Well done to Cobras for making Ram Slam final. Looking forward to trying to help them win the final on Sunday. Excited to be playing again.”

His presence for the showpiece will be manna from heaven to the Cobras brains trust, as they have surrendered several players to the national Test squad, preparing to tackle Australia shortly in three encounters.

It was also revealed on Sunday that overseas star Sunil Narine, the West Indian off-spinner, will not be available as he has to return to the Caribbean to play for Trinidad and Tobago in a domestic 50-overs match in order to ensure ongoing eligibility for the West Indies team.

Not only will Kallis immensely bolster the Cobras on both the batting and bowling front, but the 38-year-old should also increase the likelihood of the “full house” signs going up.

He has not played any cricket since turning out for the Proteas in the “Festival of Cricket” T20 friendly against the Springbok rugby team on January 3.
