Cape Town - Hashim Amla has marked his Cape Cobras debut with a half-century and Beuran Hendricks claimed a six-wicket bag as the Cobras beat the Knights by nine runs in the final game of Sunday’s Ram Slam Twenty20 triple-header at Newlands.
The curtain came down on the Festival of Cricket with a nail-biter that went down to the final over, in which Hendricks claimed three wickets to finish with figures of 6 for 29.
That ensured that Amla made a winning start to his Cobras career after he had carried his bat in an innings that totalled 153 for five, oozing class in a smooth knock of 59 not out from 43 balls.
After Richard Levi had fallen to the third ball of the match, Amla shared in a 67-run stand with Graeme Smith (47) to put the Cobras back on track, and his calming presence guided his new team to a strong total on a different pitch to the one used for the first two matches of the day.
The Knights looked on track for much of the chase thanks to young opener Reeza Hendricks, who returned to form as he hit three sixes in his 60.
However, his dismissal to namesake Beuran with five overs remaining left the lower order with too much to do, and Hendricks had no trouble defending the 15 runs required from the final over of the game.
