Cape Town - Three wickets from Basheer Walters shattered the VKB Knights’ top order and inspired an excellent 42-run bonus-point victory for the Warriors in their T20 Challenge clash at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

The fast bowler removed the home side’s top three with only 23 on the board as they tried to chase down 158.

Andrew Birch (2/24), Sisanda Magala (2/15) and JJ Smuts (2/22) then chipped in with two wickers apiece to roll over the hosts, who were without Friday’s star man and centurion David Miller due to injury, for a woeful 115.

No one really kicked on for the Knights, despite starts from Rudi Second (25) and Patick Botha (25), with Walters’ three early wickets seemingly knocking the stuffing out of their challenge.

Earlier, they did well to restrict the Warriors to 157/5 after the Eastern Cape franchise had won the toss and opted to bat first. Smuts made 38 (29 balls, 7 fours) and Somila Seyibokwe 29 (21 balls, 5 fours, 1 six), but the visitors appeared to be heading for a below par total.

That was until Christiaan Jonker cut loose in the final five overs with a fine unbeaten 48 (27 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) to take them to a total that ultimately proved to be a winning one.
