Cape Town - Mangaliso Mosehle struck 58 as the Highveld Lions won their first match of the T20 Challenge this season by ousting theCape Cobras by 3 runs on the Duckworth/Lewis method at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Sunday.

The hosts only faced 19.1 overs after winning the toss and batting – reaching 165/5 before rain interrupted proceedings.

The heavy rain meant that a return looked unlikely, but conditions improved enough for the visitors to be set a revised target of 70 in six overs.

And they gave a good go at it, smashing four of the five bowlers for than 10 to the over. The problem was the fifth bowler in the set, Aaron Phangiso, whose single over that went for five proved the massive difference as the Lions held on for a slender win.

Kieron Pollard smashed 26 off 12 balls, while Wayne Parnell made an unbeaten 22 (14 balls, 2 sixes), but it was not enough as the Cobras fell just short of building on their first win of the campaign when they beat the Warriors on Friday.

Earlier, Mosehle struck two fours and three sixes in his 40-ball performance that helped the Lions towards a competitive total. Nicky van den Bergh also played a key role with an unbeaten 35.

Rory Kleinveldt was the pick of the bowlers with 2/24, with Pollard taking 2/43.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
