Cape Town - The Highveld Lions have signed Omphile Ramela on a loan agreement from the Cape Cobras for the T20 Challenge.

"We have been unfortunate due to some players within the existing squad incurring injuries as of late. Added to this are our players currently on national duty in Australia and we have identified the need for a specialist opening batsman," commented Chief Executive Officer Greg Fredericks.

"We are happy to welcome Omphile to the Lions family for the T20 Competition and believe that a player of his calibre will strengthen our existing side."

Ramela joins the side on Friday and will be available for selection for the game against the Cape Cobras on Sunday at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom (14:30).

Ramela had captained the Cobras in the Sunfoil Series this season.

It is unclear if the loan will continue beyond the T20 Challenge.
