Pretoria - A partnership of 97 runs between captain Morne van Wyk and Reeza Hendricks ensured the Knights got over the line in their T20 Challenge match against the Titans in Centurion on Sunday.

Despite a magnificent 70 from Farhaan Behardien, which helped the Titans set a competitive total of 165/7 off their 20 overs, it was not enough to prevent his side losing by five wickets.

Van Wyk anchored the Knights’ innings with his 62 off 50 balls, while Hendricks reached his highest score in 20-over cricket, stroking 55 runs off 36 balls.

Hendricks’s innings came to an end when Alfonso Thomas splayed his stumps after he had smashed four fours and two sixes.

Thomas finished with 3-17, after bowling Rilee Rossouw for a duck with his first ball.

The first ball of his second spell removed Hendricks and he was also responsible for the eventual dismissal of Van Wyk in the 18th over.

Werner Coetsee ended the match bludgeoning Rowan Richard for six, to take the Knights home with four balls to spare.

Sent in to bat, the Titans made a disastrous start when Henry Davids lofted the second ball of the match, from Johan van der Wath, high to mid-on where Obus Pienaar took an easy catch.

In the next over, Roelof van der Merwe was caught behind by Van Wyk, off the bowling of Dillon du Preez with both batsmen having failed to score.

At six for two, the hosts were in deep trouble but Jacques Rudolph and Martin van Jaarsveld combined for a quick 53 runs off 33 balls before Van Jaarsveld (19) holed out to Romano Terblanche at mid-wicket.

Rudolph, who had stroked 43 runs off 29 balls, was run out shortly afterwards by Malusi Siboto, fielding off his own bowling.

Behardien was chiefly responsible for adding 61 runs to the total off the last five overs, but the respectable total proved to be about 15 runs short in the end.
