Warriors dominate Eagles

Bloemfontein - The Eagles will continue their first innings of their SuperSport-series match against the Warriors at the OUTsurance Oval in Bloemfontein on Saturday on 127 for two needing another 208 runs to avoid the follow on.

Their captain Boeta Dippenaar (39 n/o) and Reeza Hendricks (49 n/o) will continue their innings'. Hendricks scored an unbeaten 151 runs last week against the Cobras.

Opener Dean Elgar (6) and Rilee Rossouw (11) both fell victim to left-arm seamer Wayne Parnell. Elgar was caught in the slips by Johan Botha, while Rossouw was caught by Jon-Jon Smuts at square-leg. Parnell (two for 24) bowled seven maidens in his twelve overs troubling the home side's batsmen quite a bit. The Warriors scored 484 runs before being dismissed. Lyall Meyer (54 n/o) and Jean Theron (35) frustrated the home side sharing a 104-run partnership for the last wicket.

The partnership also included 15 extras. The half-century was only Meyer's second of his SuperSport series career.

The Eagles conceded 52 extras during the first innings. Theron eventually lost his wicket when he was caught by Thandi Tshabalala off the bowling of Ryan Bailey. Bailey (two for 42) had the best bowling figures for the home side. Five of the visitors batsmen managed to score half-centuries, but they couldn't convert it to centuries. Craig Thyssen (65), Zander de Bruyn (53), Ashwell Prince (56), Davey Jacobs (66) and Meyer all weighed in.

Victor Mpitsang (two for 63) got rid of Wayne Parnell (16) and Jacobs in successive overs. The youngster, Parnell, was caught in the slips by captain Dippenaar off Mpitsang's bowling. Jacobs was trapped leg before wicket in the seamers next over.
Jacobs struck nine fours in his innings. Johan Botha (35) and Jacobs could only add 11 runs to their teams overnight score of 318/6 before Botha was trapped leg before by Charl Pietersen (two for 89).

The spinner Con de Lange (two for 83) also grabbed two wickets.
