Port Elizabeth - The Warriors inched themselves to within 75 runs of the Titans' first innings total to set up an intriguing third day in the SuperSport Series clash at St George's on Friday.
But apart from an impressive 80 by opener Jon-Jon Smuts, it was a largely slow day, with the scoring rate painfully slow for long periods in the afternoon and evening sessions.
By the close, the Warriors had reached 268 for five wickets off 93 overs in reply to the Titans' first innings total of 343.
When the players walked of the park Craig Thyssen was on 35 and Johan Botha on 31.
Smuts was in imperious form as he dominated the Titans' attack from the outset.
His on-drives were particularly pleasing on the eye as he stroked 13 fours and a straight six off 119-balls. He was a pleasure to watch and it is a great pity that only one man and his dog were in the ground to appreciate the knock.
Colin Ingram also looked good until he had a slight aberration and ran past a delivery from leg-spinner Shaun von Berg and was stumped by wicketkeeper Heino Kuhn for 41.
Earlier, the Titans, who were 343 for nine overnight, failed to add to the total as Ethy Mbhalati (18) edged a delivery from Rusty Theron through to wicketkeeper Arno Jacobs.
That also brought about an end to a Titans' record stand for the last wicket as Mbhalati combined with Heino Kuhn to post 96 runs.
Mbhalati was also a partner in the previous best of 71 also against the Warriors but on that occasion his partner was Justin Kemp.
Kuhn finished the innings unbeaten on 160.
