Warriors, Lions washed out

Port Elizabeth - Rain washed out the first day’s play of the SuperSport Series match between the Chevrolet Warriors and bizhub Highveld Lions at Axxess DSL St. George’s in Port Elizabeth on Thursday.

Torrential rain left the umpires with no choice but to call off play for the day before a ball was bowled.

The Warriors, after their superb run in the Champions League Twenty20, have endured a rough start to their first-class campaign, losing to the Titans and just managing to hold out for a draw against the Dolphins.

The visitors have yet to win a match themselves but two draws has ensured they begin the latest round of matches in fourth place on the points table.

Teams:

Chevrolet Warriors squad - Jon-Jon Smuts, Justin Kreusch, Arno Jacobs (wk), Michael Smith, Bevan Bennett, Ashwell Prince (captain), Craig Thyssen, Nicky Boje, Basheer Walters, Makhaya Ntini, Andrew Birch, Siyamthanda Ntshona.

bizhub Highveld Lions squad - Alviro Petersen (captain), Craig Alexander, Werner Coetsee, Stephen Cook, Cliffe Deacon, Zander de Bruyn, Friedel de Wet, Robbie Frylinck, Paul Harris, Neil McKenzie, Ethan O’Reilly, Thami Tsolekile (wk), Jonathan Vandiar, Vaughn van Jaarsveld.
