Titans in commanding position

Cape Town - The Titans are in a commanding position with a 50-run first-innings lead and four wickets in hand when stumps were drawn on day two of their four-day SuperSport Series match against the Cobras at Paarl on Friday.

The Pretoria visitors took their overnight score of 10 for one 1 (7.5 overs) to 278 for six (104 overs) in Friday's play after the Cobras had posted 228 all out in their first innings on Thursday.

Half-centuries by Gulam Bodi (63), Faf du Plessis (57) and Farhaan Behardien (54) were the chief contributors in the Titans' first innings.

In each of the first two sessions the Titans scored 87 runs although the run rate was far slower in the the post-lunch period.
The Cobras paceman Vernon Philander was the pick of the bowlers and he ended the day with the splendid figures of four for 43 in 22 overs, six of which were maidens.

He picked up two of his sticks in the final session.

With two days play left, the Titans will be trying to bat for most of the day on Saturday and hopefully build up a substantial lead.

Roelof van der Merwe (13 not out) and captain Pierre Joubert (8 not out) will be at the crease when the Titans resume batting on Saturday.
