Johannesburg - A Highveld-thunderstorm chased the players off the field with the Chevrolet Warriors in control on 179/3 against the Bizhub Highveld Lions thanks to an aggressive half-century from Michael Price in the SuperSport Series match at the Wanderers on Friday.
The umpires called stumps when it became clear that no play would be possible because of the elements.
Price (71, 175 balls, 8x4) and Justin Kreusch (25, 66 balls, 4x4) will resume on Saturday.
The players were chased off the field of play shortly after tea on Friday, and could not return because of the heavy showers and bad light.
Earlier, the Lions, resuming on 316/8, were dismissed for 338 in their first innings
Shane Burger (114*, 174 balls, 14x4) and Zander de Bruyn (81, 98 balls, 11x4, 1x6) did the bulk of the scoring for the Lions.
Price was at the heart of the counter-offensive of the Warriors when they started their first innings, as he and Bevan Bennett punished Ethan O’ Reilly in his short first spell, slamming 36 runs off his first four overs.
Bennett (17, 28 balls, 4x4) was bowled by the fast bowler Craig Alexander with the score on 40/1 in the ninth over.
Jon-Jon Smuts (35, 56 balls, 5x4) perished in similar fashion, failing to pick up a quicker delivery from Alexander as the Warriors slipped to 88/2.
Arno Jacobs looked in ominous form and belted five fours in his 24 before he was beaten by an in-swinger of Burger and trapped in front with the score on 122/3.
Price and Kreusch added 57 off 150 balls in 94 minutes for the fourth wicket.
Alexander, with 2/42 in ten overs, displayed some of the form that made him the Emerging South African team most priced asset during the tournament Down Under in 2010.
Burger finished with 1/34 from 13 overs.
