Potchefstroom - A century from Vaughn van Jaarsveld put the Highveld Lions in a commanding position after the first-day of their SuperSport match against their near neighbours the Titans.
When the umpires called time the Lions had reached 352 for four with Vaughn van Jaarsveld on 102 and Zander de Bruyn on 59.
The middle-order batsmen had compiled a fifth-wicket partnership of 143.
The start of the game was delayed for a while because of a wet pitch but the hold-up failed to deter debutante Grant Makoena and Stephen Cook who constructed 104 for the opening partnership before Makoena departed with his total on 54.
Cook was his usual obderate self striking a 164-ball 77, McKenzie weighed in with 42 and then the Van Jaarsveld and De Bryun partnership dominated proceedings till close of play.
Paul Harris had a marathon shift of 31 overs in the North West heat and made the initial break through when he removed Makoena and Jonathan Vandiar.
