Titans win with day to spare

Centurion - The Titans knocked off the required 152 runs in 135 minutes to win their opening match of the Supersport Series against the Warriors by at Supersport Park on Saturday.

Blake Snijman was unbeaten on 78 and Gulam Bodi on 43 ensuring a nine wicket victory for the home side.

Veteran Makhaya Ntini took the only wicket of the innings when he had captain Jacques Rudolph caught behind by Arno Jacobs for 25 in the first over after tea.

The Warriors, who won the toss and elected to bat, redeemed themselves earlier in the day with a second innings' total of 380 after being bowled out for a paltry 89 in their first innings on Thursday.

Ashwell Prince, who made a duck in the first innings, hit 144 off 203 balls, including 21 fours and one six. He shared two crucial partnerships of 127 and 153 with Jon Jon Smuts for the third wicket and Arno Jacobs for the fourth wicket respectively.

The visitors resumed their second innings on 221/3 with Prince not out on 95. He cracked a superb four to long-off to bring up his 29th first class century which came off 141 balls (14x4, 1x6).

Morne Morkel was the pick of the bowlers taking 4/83. Ethy Mbhalati added another two wickets to his tally on Thursday and Clayton August chipped in with 2/42 taking the vital wicket of Prince, who was out just before lunch, caught at point by Roelof van der Merwe for 144.

The contributions of Smuts (78) and Jacobs (71) were significant in forcing the Titans to bat again.

The Titans came out firing just before tea, determined not to come back on Sunday for a few overs. They reached their 100 in 110 minutes off 152 balls and their 150 came up just 21 minutes later, the total included 23 fours and two sixes.

Snijman's 78 took him 91 balls (13x4 and 2x6) and Bodi's unbeaten 43 took 75 balls and he hit seven fours.

Man of the Match was Ethy Mbhalati for his 5/33 which enabling the Titans to cruise to victory with a day to spare.
