Centurion - For the second time in a week, the Titans claimed a seemingly impossible victory, beating the Diamond Eagles by two wickets in their Supersport Series match at Supersport Park on Sunday.

The win was part of one of two records set in the match.

On an individual note, Rilee Rossouw, who followed up his 319 first innings score for the Eagles with 64 in the second for a total of 383 runs, set a new world first-class record of scoring the most runs in a match for the losing team.

The Eagles made 570 for nine declared in their first innings, but were bundled out for 164 in their second, giving the Eagles the dubious distinction of scoring the highest first innings score by a losing team in South Africa - eclipsing the 562 made by the Highveld Lions in a losing cause against the Titans a week ago.

The Titans made 546 for nine in their first innings, before declaring with a first innings deficit of 24, in the hopes of forcing a result.

Their gamble came off, with the Eagles losing the wicket of Dean Elgar overnight, and six wickets before lunch on Sunday morning. Rossouw, who became the first person to score a triple century in a day in South Africa, was one again the hero of the Eagles innings, scoring 64 of their 164 runs.

Titans captain Pierre Joubert did the most damage with the ball, taking four for 24, while Basheer Walters, Hardus Viljoen and Shaun Von Berg took two each.

The Eagles were all out 40 minutes after lunch, leaving the Titans the task of scoring 189 off 55 overs, at 3.43 an over.

They started off at a lick, despite losing first innings centurion Gulam Bodi for nought in the first over. Jacques Rudolph also went early, caught and bowled by Johan van der Wath for nine, but Blake Snijman and Farhaan Behardien made some headway with a third wicket partnership of 59 before a direct throw at the stumps by Van der Wath saw Behardien run out for 27. Snijman made his fifth first class 50 and appeared to be leading the Titans to victory when he was bowled by Victor Mpitsang for 56 off 76 balls.

Cobus Pienaar, playing in only his second Supersport Series match, also made 56 before being caught at mid-on by Mpitsang off Van der Wath to set Titans' nerves jangling.

David Wiese, who made 87 in the first innings, was bowled by Mpitsang for eight and captain Pierre Joubert managed four before being bowled by Con de Lange.

The light was fading fast and the Eagles indulged in some time wasting.

Mangaliso Mosehle brought the target closer by hitting a boundary off Van der Wath, but with just four runs needed for victory, Shaun von Berg was caught behind by Jeanre van Wyk off CJ de Villiers without scoring.

It was Hardus Viljoen, who hit the winning runs against the Lions last weekend, who finally ended the tense situation with a straight drive for four off Van der Wath.
