Prince ton props up Warriors

Johannesburg - Ashwell Prince brought up his century as the Chevrolet Warriors reached 337 for six in their second innings at lunch on the third day of their SuperSport Series match against the Nashua Titans at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday.

Prince, who began the day on 95, faced eight deliveries before bringing up his 29th first class ton off 141 balls while striking 14 fours and a six.

The left-handed batsman eventually batted for 278 minutes as he took his score to 144 off 203 deliveries before he perished at the hands of left-arm seamer Clayton August.

Prince was well supported by Arno Jacobs as the pair put on a mammoth 153-run fourth-wicket partnership off 42.5 overs as the Warriors, who began the day trailing the Titans first innings score by eight runs, established a 108-run lead.

The left-handed Jacobs, who began the day on 23, put together a watchful innings and he reached his fifty off 104 balls but, just 11 runs after Prince’s dismissal Jacobs was dismissed by August for 71.

Prince’s departure left the Warriors on 333 for five and his departure precipitated something on a collapse for the visitors as they lost three wickets for 15 runs as Morne Morkel removed Craig Thyssen (5) with what turned out to be the last ball before lunch.

Johan Botha was not out on two while August reached the break with figures of two for 41.

Morkel reached lunch on two for 66.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
