Centurion - Two crucial partnerships, both involving Ashwell Prince, restored respectability to the Warriors batting on Friday after they had collapsed in their first innings against the Titans at Supersport Park the previous day.
After bowling out the Warriors for a paltry 89 at the start of their Supersport Series clash on Thursday, the Titans went on to score 318 all out leaving the visitors with an uphill battle to reduce the 229-run deficit and force the Titans to bat again.
After a third-wicket partnership of 127 with Jon-Jon Smuts and an unbeaten 52 with Arno Jacobs, Prince was 95 not out when bad light stopped play, with only eight more runs needed to ensure the Titans bat again.
Earlier, the Titans resumed their innings on 183/3, with a lead of 94 runs.
Heino Kuhn, who was 44 not out overnight, went on to make his 50 off 90 balls but was denied his 100 as he ran out of partners at the end of the innings. He was left hanging on 94 not out after facing 163 balls and hitting 11 fours and two sixes.
Host captain Jacques Rudolph, recently returned from England following the termination of his Kolpak contract, made a worthy contribution of 72 runs to the total.
The Warriors remained cautious in their second innings but lost the early wickets of Justin Kreusch (4), caught behind by Kuhn off the bowling of Morne Morkel and Colin Ingram (12) bowled by CJ de Villiers. The lanky paceman, who moved in the off-season from the Knights (formerly known as the Eagles) took his wicket with his very first ball of the day.
Opener Smuts and Prince saved the day with their healthy third-wicket partnership before Smuts was caught by Faf du Plessis off the bowling of Thursday's five-wicket hero Ethy Mbhalati. Prince was the more dominant of the two, contributing 57 runs to their shared 100 which came off 114 balls (19x4s).
Prince and Jacobs (23 not out) will resume their partnership feeling a little more comfortable but knowing there is still a lot of hard work to do to force the game into a fourth day.
