Cape Town - Ashwell Prince showed this weekend that he is reaching peak performance again - just in time for the Test series against England.
The Proteas front line batsmen played innings' of 68 and 136 respectively in a 6 wicket win for the Warriors against the Diamond Eagles in the SuperSport Series in East London.
It was especially the hundred in the second innings that helped the Warriors to victory and the lead in the four day competition.
Prince and the promising Jon-Jon Smuts (150* and 73*) laid into the Diamond Eagles' bowlers and reached the target of 350 (353/4) set for victory in less than 58 overs.
The Warriors sits at the top the log after five matches. The Titans, who has played one less match, is hot on their heels.
The match which took place in East London, makes one wonder about the depth of bowling in local cricket.
This match delivered 1332 runs for the loss of only 17 wickets.
If it was not for the positive attitude of the captains, this match would never have had a result.
The first three innings' were all ended by the captains themselves.
Prince said that he is not so sure that the high totals can at all be attributed to the lack of bowling depth "We have played the last few games on excellent batting pitches and I think that that is one of the reasons why the batsmen are doing so well.
"I also think that there is still a place for quality spinners in this series and is the reason why teams struggle to get results."
In Durban, where heavy rains and a wet outfield washed out the first two days of play between the Dolphins and the Cape Cobras, Andrew Puttick continued his good form with an unbeaten 169 for the Cobras.
The Cobras and Dolphins still prop up the table. The rainy weather definitely did not help their cause to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.
The Warriors and the Cobras will do battle in Paarl this weekend while the Diamond Eagles take on the Titans in Bloemfontein.
At the Wanderers, the Lions will play against the Dolphins.
