Johannesburg - Proteas and Highveld Lions fast bowler has been banned from three Supersport Series matches after being found guilty of misconduct.
Nel appeared before the Cricket South Africa (CSA) disciplinary commissioner after an incident during the Standard Bank Pro20 match between the Lions and the Dolphins at Kingsmead in Durban on February 8, and was found guilty of contravening two clauses of CSA's Code of Conduct.
The clauses state that players should not use crude or abusive language or make offensive gestures, and that they should not engage in unbecoming conduct which could bring them, the CSA Board or the game of cricket into disrepute,.
Nel received a two match suspended sentence on January 20 for a similar offence and will therefore be unable to take part in three Supersport matches.
In addition, he will be ineligible for selection for the remaining two matches this season and his team's first match of the 2009/10 season if he is found guilty of any similar contravention of the code.
