Bloemfontein - The Chevrolet Diamond Eagles claimed their second SuperSport Series win of the season as they crushed the Chevrolet Warriors by an innings and 15 runs on the fourth day of their match at the OUTsurance Oval in Bloemfontein on Sunday.

Seamer Victor Mpitsang finished with figures of five for 50 off 22 overs as the Warriors were bowled out for 334, five minutes before lunch.

Craig Thyssen was the one Warriors batsman to defy the home side’s bowlers as the normally aggressive right-hander reigned in his attacking instincts to score 80 off 164 balls before becoming the last wicket to fall when he became Mpitsang’s fifth victim of the innings,

The Warriors began the day on 233 for five with Thyssen and Justin Kreusch (23) at the crease.

The pair took their sixth-wicket partnership to 36 runs before Kreusch was trapped leg-before by seamer Johan van der Wath.

Van der Wath then claimed the wickets of Andrew Birch (0) and Corbyn Dolley (7), both caught behind by keeper Morne van Wyk, to finish with innings figures of three for 88 and match figures of eight for 142.

Mpitsang returned to the attack to bowl Garnett Kruger before Thyssen and Lonwabo Tsotsobe (12 not out) held up the Eagles’ charge to victory

The pair’s last-wicket stand used up eight over while producing 31 runs before Mpitsang’s intervention.
