Cape Town – Following his maiden international selection to the Proteas T20 squad, Cobras opener, Richard Levi may be left out of the Cape Cobras squad to take on the Dolphins in the SuperSport Series.
Although Levi was selected as the only new face in the Proteas squad who played against Australia in the recent T20 series, he did not feature as management stuck to the tried and trusted line-up.
Levi will now wait on coach, Richard Pybus to decide whether he will change the line-up which disposed the Warriors in East London this past weekend for this week’s clash at Newlands.
“He will definitely be considered, but it is still way too early in the week to be talking about team selection,” Pybus told Tuesday’s Die Burger.
The English-born coach pointed out that there were factors to consider when choosing his squad for the Cobras’ next match.
“We picked our team for the Warriors according to the conditions in East London (and) we will look at the conditions at Newlands and look at what the Dolphins are doing before we make a decision.
“We have however played some good cricket over the past weekend and I don’t think that we will be many changes to the side.”
Die Burger suggests that the one player who could be dropped out of the team to make way for Levi is former opening – now middle order batsman, Alistair Gray.
Gray, who also bowls reasonable leg breakers, has not yet been contracted to the Cobras for this season.
The Cobras will need a win if they are to keep up the pressure on pacesetters, the Titans and Knights, who both won two out of their opening three matches.
The double-defending SuperSport Series champions do however, have two matches in hand over their rivals due to their participation in the Champions League T20 in India earlier this month and Pybus is happy with his team’s adjustment to the longer version of the game.
“I was very satisfied with the discipline and ability shown by the boys. They came straight out of India where they were playing T20 cricket. It was impressive.”
