Kimberly - The Diamond Eagles finished day three on target for their second SuperSport Series victory of the season, needing 151 runs to beat the Dolphins in Kimberley on Friday.
Openers Dean Elgar, on 10 not out, and Reeza Hendricks, unbeaten on six, were at the crease when stumps were drawn with the hosts on 17 without loss.
Dolphins middle-order batsman Dave Miller had earlier compiled his maiden first-class century with an unbeaten 108 to keep the Eagles at bay. Miller struck 13 fours and and four sixes as the Dolphins reached 258 all out in their second innings, giving the Eagles a target of 168 to win.
The visitors had resumed their second innings in trouble at 10/2 and lost their third wicket in Daryn Smit (eight) early in the morning session, leaving them struggling at 19/3.
Ahmed Amla (52), however, stabilised the Dolphins’ innings with his 30th career half-century.
Former Proteas all-rounder Andrew Hall (25) and Miller shared an invaluable 65-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
Cameron Delport (30) also managed to trouble the home side for a while before he was caught behind by Morn van Wyk off the bowling of spinner Con de Lange, who returned 2/49.
Paceman Johan van der Wath got rid of four batsmen for 62 runs and led the home side’s bowling attack.
Ryan McLaren, who picked up three for 56, removed the tail.
