Johannesburg - Jon-Jon Smuts, with a career-best century, powered the Chevrolet Warriors to 315/3 (declared) in reply to the superb 391/4 scored by the Gestetner Diamond Eagles in their SuperSport Series match at Buffalo Park in East London on Saturday.
The Eagles, with a first-innings lead of 76 runs, moved unhindered to 92/1 at stumps, an overall lead of 168 runs.
Their second-innings reply was led by their 21-year-old opening batsman Reeza Hendricks (53, 83 balls, 10x4).
Hendricks lost his opening partner, Dean Elgar, when he was caught behind by Davey Jacobs for seven with the score on 18, but Hendricks and Rilee Rossouw (23, 36 balls, 4x4) then took charge.
Ntini, with 1/19 from four overs, was the pick of the attack.
Earlier Smuts muscled his way to a career-best 150 off 256 balls, with 24 fours and a six.
He added 111 runs for the fourth wicket with Colin Ingram (50, 69 balls, 5x4, 1x6) as they completely dominated the attack on a flat wicket.
The Warriors declared the innings closed on 315/3 in an attempt to lure the Eagles into a possible declaration on Sunday to push for an outright win.
The declaration gave the Eagles a first-innings lead of 76 runs.
Earlier, the Eagles scored 391/4 before they declared. Boeta Dippenaar (112, 180 balls, 19x4, 1x6) and Morné van Wyk (86, 84, 9x4, 2x6) led their batting onslaught.
Smuts was supreme off the back-foot and slashed several fours through the covers. His on-driving was also very impressive.
The former South African under-19-batsman looked in fine form as he scored to all parts of the ground.
Smuts received good support from Ashwell Prince, who was run out, but not before he scored a scintillating 68, off 119 balls, with eight fours.
Prince looked in little trouble as he played the highly rated CJ de Villiers and the former South African player, Johan van der Wath, with ease.
The wicket gave the bowlers little to enthuse about and there was no support in terms of turn or bounce for the slower men.
CJ de Villiers, with 1/63 in sixteen overs, and Tshabalala, with 1/34 in nine overs, were the best of an out-of-sorts bowling attack.
