Dolphins make recovery

Kimberley - The Dolphins recovered well after being in trouble at 95/5 at lunch on the first day of their SuperSport-series match against the Diamond Eagles at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley. The visitors managed to score 236 before losing their last wicket.

A partnership sixth wicket partnership of 58 runs between David Miller (49) and Bradley Barnes (8), in which they faced 145 balls, helped stabilise their innings.

Andrew Hall (36) and Johan Louw (21) shared a valuable 55 run partnership for the eighth wicket. Hall was not afraid to take on the Eagles' attack and struck seven fours in his innings before being dismissed off the bowling of Northhamptonshire teammate, Johan van der Wath with Reeza Hendricks taking the catch.

Van der Wath (3/70) took his first wicket with the second ball of the day when Imraan Khan (0) was caught behind by Morne van Wyk. The bowler managed to get a lot of movement off the seam in his early spells.

Daryn Smit (41) shared a 50-run partnership with Loots Bosman (19) for the second wicket until Bosman, a former Eagles player, was trapped leg before by Victor Mpitsang.

Allrounder Ryan McLaren (2/61) sent Ahmed Amla (16) and Smit back to the change room before lunch. Mpitsang (2/27) picked up his second victim when he trapped Barnes leg before. Con de Lange (1/5), Ryan Bailey (1/26) and Gino Vries (1/41) also picked up wickets for the home side.

The Diamond Eagles resume at 50/2 on Thursday with Dean Elgar (18*) and nightwatchman Con de Lange (2*) at the crease.

Opening batsman Hendricks (8) was caught in the slips by Amla off the bowling of Quinton Friend.

Rilee Rossouw was dropped in the slips without scoring a run but was then trapped leg before wicket by Friend (2/19) with his score on 11.
