Dolphins cruise to victory

Port Elizabeth - The Dolphins picked up their second win of the SuperSport Series this season when they thrashed the Warriors by eight wickets at St George's on Sunday.

After reaching 32/1 by stumps on Saturday, the Dolphins needed a further 100 runs for victory when play resumed on Sunday morning. It was their captain Imraan Khan who led them to a convincing win over the Eastern Cape franchise with two sessions to spare.

Left-handed Khan struck 11 fours in accumulating 73 not out off 124 balls while Ahmed Amla added an unbeaten 41 in an unbroken 102-run third wicket partnership with his skipper.

Warriors seamer Basheer Walters took the only two wickets to fall in the innings trapping Devon Conway in front for five and bowling Divan van Wyk for two.

Khan struck the winning runs just before lunch to give the Dolphins' second win of the season, a feat which lifted them to third position on the log.

By contrast, the Warriors' frustrating season continued as they have now lost two of their six matches and drawn the others.

The Warriors bowlers were admirable in their efforts to dismiss the Dolphins.

It was the skill of Dolphins leg-spinner Imraan Tahir who put paid to any chance of the home side batsmen mounting any serious challenge.

Tahir took six wickets to run through the Warriors' second innings on Saturday. He finished with figures of six for 82 in 26 over and finished up with a match return of 12 for 216.
