Cook on song for Lions

Kimberley - Highveld Lions batsman Stephen Cook scored an unbeaten century to take his first-class career aggregate past the 7 500 runs mark in his side’s SuperSport Series clash against the Knights at the Diamond Oval.

Full scorecard

It was also Cook’s 22nd first-class century as he batted all day after the Lions won the toss for an unbeaten 131 (282 balls, 20 fours) to anchor his side’s innings to a very healthy 297/6.

He put on 71 for the first wicket with in-form Alviro Petersen and 81 for the second with Jonathan Vandiar. There was a slight setback when their experienced middle-order men, Neil McKenzie and Zander de Bruyn, were dismissed in the space of the first six deliveries after the tea interval by Dillon du Preez before Cook stabilised the innings again in a partnership of 48 with Temba Bavuma.

The Knights used seven different bowlers with Du Preez and Ryan McLaren the most successful with two wickets each.
