Cape Town - Johann Louw and Justin Ontong starred for the Cape Cobras on the first day of the latest round of SuperSport Series matches on Thursday, with the hosts bowling the Highveld Lions out for a paltry 86 at Newlands.

Louw took five for 37 in 15 overs and Ontong was not out on a 100 when the umpires called time.

When the players walked off the park the hosts were on 196 for three, a lead of 110.

Rory Kleinveldt and Beuran Hendricks, with two wickets apiece, offered good support for Louw. The only batsman to offer any resistance was Dominic Hendricks with 29.

The Cobras, buoyed by their domestic 1-Day Cup triumph last week, won the toss and elected to field first and they were all over the Lions from the outset.

Louw removed Stephen Cook (3), Jonathan Vandiar and Neil McKenzie. Both went without scoring and the Lions' top order was in ruins.

A flurry of three wickets saw the Lions limp to lunch on 54 for six.

After the break, Louw completed his five wicket haul when he had Cliffie Deacon caught at second slip by Justin Kemp, with the Lions all out in 39.2 overs.

The visitors struck back, Pumelela Matshikwe claiming the wickets of Yaseen Vallie and Stiaan van Zyl with just 18 on the board.

But Andrew Puttick (32) and Ontong put on 90 for the third-wicket to erase the deficit. At the close Ontong reached his century from 141-balls, which included 15 fours and a six. Keeping him company at the wicket was JP Duminy (37 not out) to put the Cobras in total control.

In Bloemfontein, the Knights hosted the Titans in a top-of-the-table clash.

The Knights, who won the toss and elected to bat, were dismissed for 438 with Rilee Rossouw and Morne van Wyk both scoring centuries. The pair shared in a massive 223 partnership for the sixth-wicket to help the side recover from 101 for five.

Rossouw was eventually out for 145 off 178-balls, striking 23 fours and one six, while Van Wyk made 139.

The Titans faced just one over and were three without loss at stumps.

Finally in Port Elizabeth, Colin Ingram struck a 177-ball century to give the Warriors a fighting chance after being bowled out for 295 in their match against the Dolphins.

Ingram and fast bowler Basheer Walters, who struck a maiden first-class half-century, shared in a 10th wicket partnership of 110 after the hosts looked destined to be bowled out for less than 200.

Kyle Abbott and Robbie Frylinck were the destroyers in chief with four for 64 and four for 123 respectively.

At the close of play the Dolphins were 38 for one.
