Cobras annihilate Titans

Johannesburg - Rory Kleinveld's eight-wicket haul helped the Cobras complete a resounding victory over the Titans early on the third morning of their SuperSport Series match in Benoni on Saturday.

Full scorecard

The defending champions needed just 19.1 overs to claim the final six wickets and win the match by an innings and 46 runs. The win was set up by the visitors' first innings bowling display in which they dismissed the hosts for a woeful 112.

The Cobras replied with 394. The 282 margin proved too big for the Titans and they eventually fell to 236 all out.

Kleinveldt, who finished with three for 68 in the second innings, was also the star in the first innings when he took the first five wickets to end with five for 26 and an eventual match haul of eight for 94.

He was given fine support by fellow seamers Vernon Philander, the pick of the bowlers in the second innings with four for 71, and Johann Louw (two for 38).

Resuming on 150 for four overnight and with a miracle required to avoid defeat, the Titans lost Heino Kuhn (nine) and Albie Morkel for a duck within three overs - both men falling to the medium pace of Kleinveldt.

Philander then bowled captain Martin van Jaarsveld (17), while Louw took the next two.

Hardus Viljoen tried his best to help avoid an innings defeat by smashing a 28-ball 40, before he was the last man out to left-arm spinner Robin Peterson.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
