Johannesburg - Proteas and Nashua Dolphins batsman Hashim Amla has been suspended for one SuperSport Series match following the outcome of a Cricket South Africa (CSA) disciplinary hearing on Monday.
The hearing arises from of an incident during the limited overs tour match between South Africa A and England at Senwes Park last month.
Amla pleaded guilty in writing to CSA Disciplinary Commissioner, Adv. Michael Kuper, SC, of contravening Level 2, Clauses 6.3.1 (a) and (b) of CSA's Rules and Code of Conduct.
These concern showing serious dissent towards an umpire's decision and serious public criticism of, or inappropriate comment on a match-related incident or match official. Amla was reported by on-field umpire Brian Jerling to Match Referee Barry Lambson.
He is thus is ineligible to participate in the following SuperSport match between the Dolphins and the Warriors to be played at Kingsmead in Durban from December 10 to 13.
Adv Kuper also stated the following in his Commissioner's Report: "The breach is a serious one aggravated by the fact that it occurred during a tour match and was committed by the captain who should have set an example.
"On Mr Amla's behalf it can be said that he has hitherto had an unblemished disciplinary record; that he has not sought to evade responsibility for his conduct and that he has apologised for his behaviour. In this circumstance I am satisfied that the appropriate penalty in respect of this offence, which is a Level 2 offence, is a suspension for one four-day match but without the need, in addition to impose a fine."
