Von Berg, Siboto edge Titans towards title

Cape Town - Shaun von Berg and Malusi Siboto shared seven wickets as the Titans took a significant step towards defending their Sunfoil Series title after commanding the opening day of their final round clash against the Warriors in Benoni.

The reigning champions, who lead the table by over two points heading into the round 10 clash, bowled the visitors out for just 187 at Sahara Park Willowmoore, before then reaching stumps on 48/2 – trailing by 139.

Spinner Von Berg was one of the stars with the ball for the Titans as he took 4/59, with seamer Siboto not too far behind with his 3/40.

The Warriors’ batsmen mostly struggled after they had won the toss and opted to bat, the best of the scorers being Colin Ingram with his 49.

Captain Simon Harmer hit 46 not out, but none of the other batsmen went past 18, leaving the men from the Eastern Cape all out in 74.2 overs.

Anrich Nortje did briefly give them hope when he removed home opener Heino Kuhn for 6, while Harmer accounted for Aiden Markram (7).

But Proteas opener Dean Elgar was unbeaten on 31 at the close as the Titans took another step toward retaining the crown they won 12 months ago.
