Von Berg five-fer puts Titans in command

Cape Town - Shaun von Berg's five-wicket haul laid the foundation for the Titans to dominate the opening day of the Sunfoil Series clash against the Cape Cobras at Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday.

The leg-break bowler took 5/88 in 25.3 overs, the 19th five-for of his career, as the visitors dismissed the hosts for just 235 after winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

Aiden Markram then struck a brisk 58 (65 balls, 10 fours) to help the defending champions close on 108/1.

The opener shared an unbroken stand of 75 with Grant Mokoena (39) for the second wicket to leave their side trailing by just 127.

Earlier it was Von Berg that lead the way with the ball. After David Wiese (2/45) had done the initial damage, the Cobras were fighting back on 166/4 thanks to Stiaan van Zyl, who top-scored with 65 (140 balls, 8 fours).

Justin Ontong (45) was the other substantial contributor, but there was little else on offer for the winless hosts.

Dala also chipped in with 2/42 as the Titans closed in a strong position.
