Pietermaritzburg - The Dolphins and the Highveld Lions had to settle for a draw after the final day of their Sunfoil Series match was completely rained out at the City Oval in Pietermaritzburg on Monday.
Not a single ball was bowled on the day as the Dolphins ended on their overnight score of 257/9 in their first innings, trailing the Lions by 257 runs, after the visitors had compiled an imposing 516/5 declared in their first innings.
Heavy rain overnight and a persistent drizzle on day four meant that the umpires finally had to concede to the elements when they called the match off shortly after what would have been the start of the post-lunch session.
The defending champion Lions would have been particularly frustrated by the inclement weather as they began the match trailing the log-leading Titans by seven points.
They eventually ended with 8.58 bonus points - 4.58 for their batting efforts and four bowling points.
The visitor’s batting had been a particular highlight of the match with Rassie van der Dussen and Dominic Hendricks both scoring centuries, and sharing the man of the match award, while Temba Bavuma fell just six runs short of his ton.
The Dolphins collected 4.18 bonus points for their efforts.
