Philander returns for Cobras

Cape Town - Proteas seamer Vernon Philander is back in action after he was named in the Cape Cobras side that will do battle against the Dolphins at Newlands from Thursday.

Philander has not played competitive cricket since November last year after he injured his ankle in a freakish football accident following the Mohali Test against India.

It had originally been hoped that Philander would feature in the four-Test series against England over December and January, but it was not to be.

The Cobras won the toss and opted to bowl under overcast skies - perfect conditions for Philander to make his return.

Cobras: Andrew Puttick, Simon Khomari, Stiaan van Zyl, Justin Ontong (capt), Dane Vilas (wk), Cebo Tshiki, Wayne Parnell, Vernon Philander, Dane Piedt, Brandon Young, Tshepo Moreki

Dolphins: Imraan Khan (capt), Sarel Erwee, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, Daryn Smit (wk), Senuran Muthusamy, Andile Phehlukwayo, Sibonelo Makhanya, Keshav Maharaj, Mthokozisi Shezi, Rabian Engelbrecht, Craig Alexande
