Miller's career-best gives Knights the edge

Cape Town - A splendid career-best 177 by David Miller ensured that the Knights held the advantage after day three of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Highveld Lions at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley on Saturday.

The Standard Bank Proteas limited-overs star, making his debut for the home side, batted for over four hours and clubbed two sixes and 31 fours in his aggressive 195-ball knock to help his team post 572 all out, a lead of 89.

Michael Erlank also hit a century with his 103 (240 balls, 13 fours) forming part of a fine 243-run third-wicket alongside Miller - the centuries being the fifth for both players in their first-class careers.

It was also the latter’s highest score, beating his 149 for the Hollywoodbets Dolphins against the Lions back in the 2010/11 season.

There were also two other substantial contributions for the hosts. Fast bowler Marchant de Lange smashed his highest score of 65, which came from just 53 balls and included 8 fours and 4 sixes.

Before that Luthando Mnyanda hit 59 (119 balls, 8 fours) as the home side dominated.

Debutant Ayavuya Myoli was the best of the bowlers for the Lions with his 4/145.

Inspired by his showing with the bat, De Lange (1/15) then struck to take out Reeza Hendricks, who completed a pair in his first match against his former employers.

Shadley van Schalkwyk (1/9) dealt the away side another blow before the close by removing Rassie van der Dussen (26) with the Lions trailing by 27 after closing on 62/2.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
