Heavy rain scuppers Lions, Knights clash

Cape Town - Heavy overnight rain and a wet outfield prevented any play on the opening day of the Sunfoil Series clash between the bizhub Highveld Lions and VKB Knights at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Muggy conditions, along with light drizzle, greeted those arriving at the ground early this morning.

The rain eventually did subside, with the covers removed, but damp patches on the outfield meant an early lunch was taken.

Umpires Lubabalo Gcuma and Brad White eventually decided to call off proceedings at around 1.45pm.

There was no toss either as both teams were left frustrated in their second versus third encounter.

Play is scheduled to start 30 minutes earlier tomorrow at 9.30am.
