Duminy, Vilas break Oz duo’s record

Cape Town - Discarded Proteas JP Duminy and Dane Vilas notched a record partnership playing for their franchise, the Cape Cobras this past weekend.

Both were recently dropped from the Proteas Test team but sent a message to the selectors in the Sunfoil Series match against the Highveld Lions in Paarl.

Duminy scored 260 not out, while Vilas was unbeaten on 216 when the Cobras declared their first innings on 570/4.

Their 393-run partnership is a record in South Africa for the fifth wicket, breaking the 385 scored by Australia’s Steve Waugh and Greg Blewett against South Africa at the Wanderers in 1997.

The Lions were dismissed for 252 in their first innings, but then fought gallantly in their follow-on innings, reaching 287/9 in 140 overs to earn a draw.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
