Warriors dominate in Bloem

Bloemfontein - A 111-run partnership between David White and Ryan Bailey dominated day one of the Warriors’ Sunfoil Series clash against the Knights at Chevrolet Park, but their dismissals late on Thursday created an opening for the Knights to exploit.

White’s second century of the tournament and Bailey’s 60 carried the Warriors to 227 for four with stumps in sight, but both batsmen fell in the space of three overs.

That left the visitors 231 for six overnight, with two new batsmen yet to get off the mark.

The match was delayed by a wet outfield in the morning, after which the Warriors won the toss and elected to bat - a decision which was vindicated by an opening stand of 49 between White and Michael Price.

However, the Knights were able to chip away at the Warriors order and reduce them to 116 for four after 40 overs, before White and Bailey came together for a fifth-wicket partnership that took the Warriors to the second new ball.

Both batsmen showed immense patience, scoring at a strike rate of less than 50, before Werner Coetsee made the breakthrough to have White caught for 112.

Johan van der Wath then picked up his second wicket of the day as he had Bailey caught behind, leaving the Warriors with plenty to do if they are to record the solid first-innings score they desire.
