McLaren moves to Dolphins

Durban - All-rounder Ryan McLaren has joined the Dolphins after spending 10 years with the Free State-based Knights.

McLaren is expected to join the Durban franchise from May 1.

"I have been playing for Knights for 10 years of my cricket career and was looking for a change in environment," McLaren said in a statement on Thursday.

"I'm looking forward to the new challenge and I hope that this new opportunity will bring about a positive change to my cricket career."

McLaren has represented the Proteas in all three formats and is currently a key member of the Proteas Test and ODI squads.

"Ryan will be an invaluable asset to the Dolphins as not only an all-rounder but also as a senior player," Dolphins chief executive Jesse Chellan said.

"He will strengthen the leadership group around Morne van Wyk.

"I am also confident that his experience and professionalism will help grow and nurture our young bowlers and all-rounders in Calvin Savage, Daryn Dupavillon, Andile Phehlukwayo, Craig Kirsten and Tsepo Moreki."

Dolphins coach Lance Klusener said he was happy to have the all-rounder onboard.

"Ryan McLaren is one of the premier all-rounders in the country and his decision to play for the Dolphins next season is exciting news for both fans and the team," he said.

"The way he plays his cricket and what he will bring to the team will compliment us very well. I wish him a long and happy stay with the Dolphins."
