Bloemfontein - Heino Kuhn has displayed a welcome return to form in the four-day format as the Titans amassed 364 for eight on the opening day of their Sunfoil Series match against the Knights at Chevrolet Park.
Kuhn had endured a rough patch with the bat in the first two rounds of the competition, when he managed just 25 runs in four innings, but a couple of good knocks in the Twenty20 format appeared to have done him wonders as he hit 132 on Thursday to put the Titans in charge.
Equally pleasing for the Titans was the 81-run opening stand that Kuhn put up with Theunis de Bruyn in spite of the Knights winning the toss and sending the Titans in.
The Titans have struggled to find a successful opening pair since the beginning of last season, but De Bruyn’s 35 helped to build the foundation for a strong total.
Kuhn also put on 64 with Farhaan Behardien, who scored 47 from just 54 balls, and then added 75 with Roelof van der Merwe, whose 51 came from 63 deliveries.
The strike rates of Behardien and Van der Merwe ensured that the Titans scored at more than four an over for much of the day, before tailing off towards the end as wickets fell in the final session.
Obus Pienaar was the pick of the Knights bowlers in terms of figures, taking 2 for 29 in nine overs, which included the wicket of Kuhn.
