Knights edge Cobras to go top

Cape Town - The Knights turned the Sunfoil Series log on its head when they beat the Cape Cobras by two wickets at Newlands on Sunday.

The result means that the Knights now top the log with the Highveld Lions in second place in spite of their heavy loss to the Dolphins.

The Warriors also won outright and there are now only three points separating the top four teams.

Craig Alexander took a career best 6/38 to finish off the Highveld Lions second innings and give the Dolphins a 398-run victory at Senwes Park.

The Lions, 73/6 overnight, were dismissed for 102 with Thami Tsolekile (27*) running out of partners.

David Miller, who scored centuries in both Dolphins innings, was named Man of the Match.

The Titans, 84/4 overnight in pursuit of an unlikely target of 440 for victory, were quickly in trouble on the final day of their match when Wayne Parnell dismissed Albie Morkel and Mangaliso Mosehle in quick succession to have them 84/6.

There was no way back for the Titans from this position. Francois le Clus battled his way to 58 off 115 balls (11 fours) before Simon Harmer cleaned up the tail. Roelof van der Merwe fought a lone battle to finish undefeated on 61 (78 balls, 11 fours).

Parnell finished with 5/48 and Harmer with 4/57 to give their side victory by 225 runs.

It was Parnell’s third career five-wicket haul. His eight wickets in the match won him the Man of the Match award.

In Cape Town, Werner Coetsee took his seventh five-wicket haul to set up the Knights for their victory over the Cobras.

The Cobras were dismissed for a modest 209 with only Andrew Puttick (55 off 144 balls, 11 fours) and Yaseen Vallie (68 off 115 balls, 120 fours) holding up the Knights attack.

The Knights were left to make 170 for victory in 47 overs.

The Cobras looked as though they might turn the game on its head when Rory Kleinveldt and Dane Piedt took three wickets between them in three successive overs.

However, the Knights had the man for the moment in Pite van Biljon who followed his century in the first innings with top score of 44 in the second to get his team across the line. Dane Piedt finished with 4/60 and Beuran Hendricks with 3/29.

Van Biljon was named Man of the Match.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
