Pietermaritzburg - A third day’s play in the Sunfoil Series clash between the Dolphins and Knights has been lost due to a wet pitch in Pietermaritzburg.
On Saturday, play had to be called off due to a wet pitch for a second day in a row after day one was abandoned in the morning due to persistent rain and a wet pitch.
A pitch cover blew off on Wednesday night during a heavy storm, resulting in the pitch getting wet and with rain around on Thursday morning, there was no chance for the toss to take place or for the pitch to dry.
There was no rain around on Friday, but with overcast conditions still linger, the pitch had to chance to try and play was called off for the day at lunch time.
Saturday looked a touch better as bright sunshine greeted players and officials and while umpires were confident play would start at lunch time, the pitch had not dried enough for them to deem it fit to play.
Sun is forecast for Sunday and umpires will make one final call on what is scheduled to be the last day’s play.
