Paceman Steyn’s seaside sting

Cape Town - The world’s No 1 Test fast bowler has been delivered a taste of his own lethal medicine.

South Africa’s spearhead Dale Steyn has been peppered by blows, but it has nothing to do with cricket ... his attackers have been bluebottles.

But at least since his move to the coast here, the Phalaborwa Express seems well aware of what to do in that particular “emergency”.

He tweeted on Tuesday: “Happy to say I just peed all over my arm and leg! Bluebottle stings burn like fire!”

Legend has it - although it is medically disputed - that immediate urination on bluebottle stings significantly eases the pain from the jelly-like marine creature also known as the Portuguese man o’war.

The Proteas have had some extra time off to relax after disposing of Sri Lanka within three days in the first Test at Centurion, with Steyn contributing match figures of six for 54, although eclipsed by Vernon Philander’s 10-wicket haul.

The second starts in Durban on Boxing Day.
